“We simply reflect back the love that the parents show for their children”
- Lawrence E. Brecht, D.D.S.
Shelley Cohen
CCC-SLP
Senior Speech Language Pathologist Northwell, NextGenFace Cleft and Craniofacial Team Coordinator
Shelley has worked with Dr. Brecht to provide direct patient care for babies with congenital cleft lip and palate for over 20 years. Together with the team, Shelley assists families with cleft and craniofacial care education from the moment a child’s diagnosis is received. She teaches parents how to integrate feeding in with the use of the naso-alveolar molding appliance and provides direct speech and language development therapy and care. Shelley earned her BA in 1979 at the Southern Connecticut State University and her MA from NYU in 1981. As the NextGenFace Cleft and Craniofacial Team Coordinator Shelley considers it an honor to volunteer her support for families no matter where they are on their journey or with whom they are traveling. Shelley feels blessed to have loving and supportive parents and a close circle of wonderful friends but it’s the smiles and laughter of her two great nephews and nieces that bring her the greatest joy. When she has time for herself, Shelley enjoys reading non-fiction, walking around her hometown of NYC, and re-reading her favorite cleft speech therapy textbooks.
