Learn about dental implants, from how we partner with surgeons to how we create the custom ceramic crown that connects to the implant and completes your tooth replacement.
Understanding Dental Implants
An implant supported crown is a ceramic restoration created to replace a missing tooth. Your implant restoration will be custom made in our lab to fit securely, feel comfortable and look natural and beautiful.
The implant itself is the titanium anchor that replaces the root of your missing tooth. This biocompatible “root” of the implant is placed by a surgeon and gradually becomes a part of your mouth as your own bone grows around it.
The abutment is the custom connector between the implant and the ceramic crown. It helps retain and hold the crown in place securely so it can function normally when biting and chewing.
The crown is the custom-made ceramic tooth that attaches to the implant and completes your tooth replacement. It renews your smile with a long term, functional and natural looking restoration.
Frequently asked questions
We offer the full range of implant restorations, including:
SINGLE TOOTH This targeted implant solution replaces one missing tooth and restores just that affected area without involving the neighboring teeth.
MULTIPLE TEETH When multiple teeth need replacement, implant retained crowns are usually the preferred esthetic and functional solution.
FULL ARCH Full upper and/or lower implant restorations are an elegant long-term solution that is usually preferable to removable dentures. Full arch implant restorations are beautiful in form, support bone health and provide excellent functionality and longevity. Key benefits include:
- More natural eating experience
- Secure functioning
- Smile enhancing esthetics
- Greater comfort
Additional full arch options:
- Overdentures/implant retained complete denture: In some cases, an overdenture or implant retained complete denture is the right solution for patients with compromised bone and fewer available sites for implant placement.
- Cheek bone (zygomatic) solutions: When patients have compromised maxillary bone structures, this full arch replacement is retained by implants in the cheek bones (zygoma).
- Immediate tooth replacement: In some cases, working together with our skilled surgical partners, failing teeth can be removed, replaced with implants and, in the same visit, implant retained provisionals (temporaries) are attached. This “immediate loading” technique means that the patient is never left without teeth and it saves the patient time and visits.
If you are missing a single tooth or multiple teeth and have generally good oral health, implants could be the optimal solution for you. Your prosthodontist will do a thorough clinical evaluation and consult with you about the best treatment options.
In general, neither the surgical placement of the implant nor the fabrication of the restoration is painful. Modern practices, local anesthesia and our doctors’ expertise keep patients comfortable and informed throughout each step of the implant journey.
Replacing a missing tooth with an implant retained crown improves the function and health of the entire mouth. Bone is supported, adjacent and opposing teeth remain in place, the bite becomes more balanced, and the entire smile is esthetically enhanced. Implants can:
- Help preserve the bone and gum tissue in the area where the tooth was lost
- Provide a natural looking contour for the gum tissue
- Optimize oral hygiene
- Preserve surrounding natural teeth
- Restore your beautiful smile
In general, implants have a scientifically proven 90-95% success rate. Much depends too on the individual’s oral health and home care habits. On rare occasions, an implant may fail and need to be replaced. Your doctor will be able to provide insight into how long implants may last in your particular situation.
While each person’s needs are unique, implants are the accepted standard in tooth replacement. Implant restorations fit, feel and function just like your natural teeth and they improve the health and beauty of your smile.

“My teeth were rotting and decaying. My pregnancies had stripped a lot of calcium. I was having a lot of issues with pain. I came in and…they gave me back my confidence and my smile.”
