The Architects Of Your Smile
Bringing the science, art and technology of dentistry together to rebuild your smile
Reconstructing Beautiful Smiles
Learn how Prosthodontists use their expertise to provide multidisciplinary care as they design and reconstruct a patient’s teeth, mouth and smile.
Understanding Reconstructive Dentistry
Planning is the key to successful outcomes in reconstructive dentistry. Prosthodontists are the architects of your smile because of their unique training to bring together and coordinate specialists involved in a dental reconstruction. Using digital planning technologies, we collaborate with specialists and our lab technicians to chart the best course of treatment. We ensure seamless transitions from one phase of treatment to the next – and that you are informed and involved at every step of the journey.
Frequently Asked Questions
We offer the full range of implant restorations, including:
- Full arch and Full Mouth Reconstruction
- Overdentures/implant supported complete denture
- Jaw in a Day (JIAD™)
- Zygomatic (Cheek bone) Solutions
Because each person is unique, reconstructing a patient’s teeth in the upper or lower jaw, what we call a “full arch,” may require one or multiple types of restoration. Crowns, bridges or implant-supported crowns and bridges may be required, or a combination of restoration types may be the right solution.
Regardless of the type of restoration needed, the goal remains the same – to provide a natural functioning experience when eating and speaking while at the same time restoring your smile to its ideal state for you.
If you have compromised bone and fewer available sites for placing implants, an overdenture or a complete denture supported by implants could be the right solution for you. Although requiring fewer implants, over dentures are securely placed and are only removeable by your prosthodontist.
Overdentures and implant-supported dentures provide a more natural eating experience than traditional dentures. They remain secure and are not removable by the patient. And, they look and feel more like your own natural teeth.
For patients with either benign or malignant tumors of the upper or lower jaw, in one surgical procedure. The affected area can be removed, replaced with grafted bone from the patient’s own body, and the new jaw implanted with dental implants and replacement teeth.
Dr. Brecht was part of the team of three doctors who pioneered and perfected this complex surgical procedure to provide better solutions to patients with tumors of the oral cavity. The JIAD™ procedure allows a patient to begin recovering, healing and functioning the moment surgery is completed.
For patients who have compromised maxillary bone structures, a full arch restoration supported by implants in the cheek bones (zygoma) may be the right choice. This progressive reconstructive solution provides patients with a secure, functional and esthetic option.
From planning to specialized knowledge to collaborations with our in-house lab technicians, Dr. Brecht and Dr. Cohn each have years of additional prosthodontic training. Key benefits of working with a prosthodontist include:
- PLANNING: The design and management of complex, multidisciplinary full mouth rehabilitation treatment plans are an integral part of a prosthodontist’s specialized training. Together with the surgeon and lab technicians, your prosthodontist directs the digital surgical planning to create the best result for the patient.
- OCCLUSION: Your prosthodontist is specifically trained in the diagnosis and resolution of complex bite issues, which is essential to successful functional outcomes in a reconstructive treatment plan.
- ESTHETICS: Prosthodontists specialize in the artistry and beauty of dental reconstructions. They have the additional training and experience to design and create replacement teeth that are beautiful in form, custom matched for color, shaped to fit your face and mouth, and created to enhance the beauty of your smile.
- MATERIALS: Your prosthodontist has received specialized education in dental materials and their application. This ensures that the materials selected and used for your restoration are high quality, long lasting and biocompatible with your mouth. When different types of restorations are needed to complete a full mouth reconstruction, your prosthodontist understands how to select materials that blend together naturally for a seamless look and feel.
- TECHNOLOGY: Advanced technologies are another area of specialized training for prosthodontists. This knowledge of technology enables our prosthodontists to provide better functional and esthetic solutions with more predictable outcomes for patients with compromised dentition and bone.
- LAB: Prosthodontists receive additional education and training in dental lab arts and technology. At NYCPros, our prosthodontists understand the lab phase of your treatment and can collaborate with our in-house lab technicians as your prosthesis is being designed and fabricated.
